Texas Decoy Rigging: How to Use the MILO™ Texas Sling
Duck hunting rarely happens in the exact same conditions twice. One morning you're standing in a few inches of sheet water. The next, you're setting up in a cattle pond or deeper water where a standard shallow-water rig isn't going to cut it.
That's the idea behind the MILO™ Texas Sling. It gives you a simple way to rig your MILO™ Motion Frame™ across a range of water depths without dealing with a pile of loose decoy cord every time you pack up.
Here's how it works.
The Texas Rig Basics
At its core, the Texas Sling works a lot like a traditional duck decoy sling or Texas rig, but it's designed to stay with your MILO™ setup while you're moving in and out of the field.
In shallow water, there isn't much to do.
Set the MILO™ out and the Texas Sling deploys itself and centers underneath the unit. That makes it especially useful when you're hunting shallow sheet water and don't need several feet of line hanging below the frame.
When you need more depth, the sling gives you four different pick points along the line. You can release one side to create roughly four feet of depth or choose another rigging point to adjust the amount of line below the frame.
The goal is simple: use only as much line as you actually need for your Texas decoy rigging.
Adjusting the Texas Sling for Different Water Depths
One of the biggest advantages of the Texas Sling is that you don't have to completely rerig your MILO™ every time conditions change.
Hunting skinny water? Leave it connected and compact.
Need a little more depth? Unclip the sling and choose the rigging point that gives you the amount of line you need.
Hunting more traditional marsh or pond depths? Continue working your way through the available pick points.
Because the clips and rigging points are built into the system, you can adjust the setup without ending up with several feet of loose decoy cord wrapped around the frame, thrown in the bottom of the boat, or tangled inside your pack.
When you're finished hunting, everything clips back together into a compact package.
Throw it in a backpack. Toss it in the buggy. Load it in the boat.

How to Rig MILO™ in Deeper Water
If you're hunting deeper water, the same system can be extended even farther.
Instead of replacing your existing rig, simply add another Texas Sling and daisy chain the two together.
Using multiple pick points between the two rigs gives you approximately eight feet of available depth, making the setup useful for deeper ponds and other situations where the standard sling isn't long enough on its own.
The process stays essentially the same:
-
Start with the Texas Sling already rigged to your MILO™ Motion Frame.
-
Grab a second Texas Sling.
-
Daisy chain the two rigs together.
-
Select the pick points needed for your water depth.
-
Deploy your MILO™ Motion Frame normally.
When the hunt is over, both slings can be clipped back onto the frame for storage.
No separate anchor system. No long piece of loose cord to untangle the next morning.
Texas Rig Decoy Setup Tips
For the best results, match the amount of line to the water you're actually hunting. In shallow sheet water, keep the sling compact. In deeper water, use the pick points to add only the depth you need instead of leaving extra cord loose below the frame.
If you're moving between spots, the compact design helps keep the rig organized in a backpack, boat, or buggy and makes setup faster when conditions change.
That simple flexibility is what makes the Texas Sling useful for duck hunters who want one rig that can handle different depths without extra clutter.
One Rig for Changing Conditions
Water depth is one of those things that's easy to overlook until you're standing in it.
That's why we like keeping the Texas Sling attached to the MILO™ Motion Frame™. Whether you're hunting shallow sheet water, a normal marsh setup, or deeper water, you can adjust the same rig to match the conditions you're actually hunting.
Use what you need. Keep the rest contained. And spend less time messing with gear when you should be setting decoys.
